KEOKUK – The Keokuk Farmers Market was busy last Saturday, in part due to the extraordinarily fantastic weather, but also due to the wide range of goods on display by the 18 merchants. Food products (fresh vegetables, jams, jellies, honey, baked goods from several sources), craft and gift items, and flowers and plants were available.
One vendor, Gerolyn Mack drove from Kahoka, Missouri, to be part of the day. Her specialty is propagating and raising soft succulents. She explained that soft succulents are the kind that have to be taken inside in the cold weather, and she raises dozens of varieties of these plants. Those she had with her were for the most part very small, in pots around 3-4 inches in diameter, and they attracted a lot of attention from shoppers.
The market is open from 8-11:30 a.m. every Saturday at the River City Mall parking lot.
