A Carpinteria man has been arrested in connection with the theft of rare South African succulents from a nursery near Oak View.
Police said someone entered the Desert Images Nursery along the 500 block of Prospect Street on Nov. 18, taking two plants, a Haworthia Truncata and a Haworthia Maughani. The first plant has a value of $750 and the second $500.
Police said the theft was reported Nov. 23.
Police said a person at the nursery recalled only one person entering the greenhouse where the rare South African plants were. The manager also recalled the person in the area of the missing plants, authorities said.
The manager gave investigators the license plate number of the vehicle used by the person, authorities said.
Ventura County Sheriff's Office detectives later showed the manager a photographic lineup and the manager identified the suspect as a 28-year-old Carpinteria man.
The man was arrested on suspicion of plant theft. He is out of custody and was awaiting a court appearance.
